Ahhhhh the gentle and devine energy of this ever gorgeous women is something I am very excited to share with you all in this, the very first Playful People Profile for 2015.
Melina Ferguson, the wise young women who is the creatrix behind Wise Old Seeds.
What is Wise Old Seeds you wonder? Wise Old Seeds is Melina’s business, offering a variety of goodness such as distant healings, vibrational essences, Talismans, vibrational seeds and land clearings…clearings of the energy kind, she’s not likely to come and clear your physical land space of rubbish, cattle or other such things and my guess would be she’d be highly unlikely to be randomly chopping trees and vegetation anytime at all...ever!
Melina has planted her feet in the beautiful Macedon Ranges in Victoria, with her fella and their adorable children on a 5 acre property that has an abundance of energy, joy and love. She is a gorgeous mumma bear, playful nature bug and a loving spark of a lady. Melina truly is an outside kinda girl, her greatest passion and love is for Mother earth, the treasures earth contains and the human connection with this beautiful planet of ours.
Melina and I got together, over tea, nut milk coffee and thousands of kilometres of desert to chat about her beautiful, playful work and some of the challenges and joys of her own journey. I spoke with Melina about her exciting new workshops, her work, how she likes to play, her business and all matter of other gorgeousness.
I just love her, and I think you will too.
Can you tell us a little bit about your space, where you get creative and what it’s like?
The space where I create is an 'Avalon Labyrinth' which sits on our 5 acre property up in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria. It’s a box hedge labyrinth, it’s about 10 meters in circumference, so it is quite a large space. It is warm and inviting and when I am in the labyrinth, I feel like I'm in an energetic portal hahahaha! It’s a beautiful loving space.
I call it my space of love hahahaha!
I try to go into the labyrinth everyday, I walk the labyrinth in the morning and in the centre of labyrinth I channel through the energy I work with into my talismans, essences and seeds.
This space is where I do my work but it is also where I set my intentions for the day and tap into my own creative energy.
Do you always work and play outside?
I love being outside, it is where I feel the most free but there are times when I can’t get outside…it can get very frosty and cold in winter, here in the Macedon Ranges…it has snowed, but only once since we have lived here…So I do also have a space inside my home too.
Can you tell us about where you started out, about your background, how did you begin this work? Was there a time or a moment when you decided to honour your passion and follow your path?
It’s funny it happened little pieces at a time…I knew I had magic in me, even as a little girl so for me it was about opening up and knowing that anything was possible.
When I was 18 I was in major car accident and walked away. We were travelling at 100 kms an hour on a freeway in Northern NSW, the car blew a tyre and hit an embankment. All 5 of us walked away with only minor injuries.
I think the barometer of whats’ going on in your life can sometimes be a big life event like a car accident, getting sick or something else…it puts things in perspective. After the car accident - well, it set me on a different path.
I think also having children, opens you up more to magic. Having kids helps you to remember to play and explore magic, because they are magic!
I was also inspired to continue on my path after discovering a book - The Ringing Cedars of Russia. I connected with the lady (character) in that book, Anastasia, who talked about a deep connection with the earth/gardening and planting your own seeds. I had always been inquisitive about this and after reading, I felt I was actually able to connect with her, her message inspired me. I think it was always there though, it was intuitive for me to learn how to raise the vibration and the energy of the beautiful seeds to it’s highest potential.
Can you tell us about the vibrational seeds?
The seeds can be used medicinally, through planting and also energetically. For example, Grandfather Sage is a seed that connect’s in the body and shows where you need to raise your vibration of love. Marigold can be used for infection, sunburn etc. They can be planted and the plants used but can also be placed on the body for healing or popped under someones pillow, like Mugwart, a powerful seed - when placed under your pillow it incites dreams and greater intuition. Plus it grows wild in the garden… it’s beautiful!
The seeds already emit vibrations even before they are planted and this energy tends to attract those who need or want that kind of vibrational energy in their lives. I also write on the packaging what the seed and it’s energy are for. So the Camomile seed packaging says ‘calming’ …I think people generally need calmness in their day hahahaha! It's one of the most popular seeds people will be attracted to!
You make the most gorgeous teeny talismans, can you tell us about these?
I felt there could be a way to let people know that seeds can work on an energetic level as well as with planting.
I create Talismans which contain vibrational seeds, crystals, things from nature like tiny feathers, shells etc and tiny scrolls that have positive words, symbols and I use geometry. The symbols, words and geometry are for self love, abundance - things like that.
I work with the Talisman to bring in a magical vortex of energy. They are kind of like a powerful energetic balls of…energy… They attract their owner. When they go to their owner, I have a little ritual I do to let the owner know the energy is there ‘now it’s your turn to own it and work with it.’
Combining all these elements amps up the power.
Who and what are you loving right now…what inspires you, who are your favourite playful people?
Ummmm - at the moment I have spent lot’s of time doing inner journey work. I put so much effort and energy into others a lot of the time and can sometimes lose myself and that sense of creative flow… so I’m doing lot’s of heart work with myself.
It’s like you need to stand still and just be. Be exactly where you are.
I am inspired by my family though, when my husband Ben, comes home, it’s grounding but also crazy family time, we have a lot of fun together.
I also have an amazing and supportive group of women around me, who I see weekly, we get together to share stories and meditate and connect with each other. Being supported and supporting other women is important to me.
I’m inspired by the idea of helping the earth. I love anchoring the energy to the earth to help people gain balance and support each other… and getting the message out there that we can do that.
How do you play?
With my kids, I love to dance and sing, I go outside and dance and tap my feet onto the ground. I feel the most peace outside. I like to play with my husband hahahahaha…you know what I mean!
When we have that beautiful energetic connection as a couple I feel balanced, when I’m playing with my husband and in that space it feels beautiful. Everything needs to flow with us first, then the fun and the playing with everything else follows.
Words of Wisdom? What would you say to others wishing to pursue their passion?
I guess I would encourage simplicity, cutting it back and from that sometimes things just unfold. I welcome the day with my feet in the earth and every new moon I set intentions. It’s important to remain centered in the present but setting intentions and trusting to just see what unfolds throughout the day. Being open in your heart. Just try to notice the miracles.
Some people forget we are all on our own journey, this time, some people talk of past and future lives but we are here now…so embrace it and enjoy it!
Can you tell us a little bit more about your up coming workshops?
I wanted to teach people about the seeds and how I raise the vibrations of them. Anyone who comes along will have a hands on experience. I will teach them how I raise the vibration of seeds but It’ll be practical too, They will learn how to use their own hands to raise the vibration, plant the seed when they are there and make a vibrational essence in the labyrinth. The essence and the seed in a pot is theirs to keep, love and watch it grow over the coming weeks.
I want to share the joy of that.
Chatting with Melina over the phone whilst we sipped tea and nut milk coffee was possibly one of the better ways I have spent a morning and not for a second did it feel like we were in distant towns and separate states with thousands of kilometers of desert between us. I’ve gotta say at the end of our interview I had what can only be described as the best distant hug (or phone hug, that’s a thing right?) I have ever had.
Melina rocks and she does so with adorable grace, conviction and love.
Have Fun - Gat Happy
